This year the Baltics and Belarus have had a very hot summer. Hot regional IP topics from SORAINEN are also in your e-mail boxes.

In this issue we touch on biotechnology in Lithuania. The Programme of Industrial Biotechnology Development in Lithuania for the period 2011-2013 is currently under consideration and should be approved by the end of the summer. We provide a brief overview of the goals and target areas of the Programme plus developments in this sector during the previous period.

On 5 July 2010, Estonia switched to a new domain system which brings a number of important changes: individuals and foreign nationals are now able to register .ee domain names and one person can register more than one domain name. You will find the main features of the new system in the Estonian section.

We were surprised by the recent increase in inquiries regarding the duty to pay copyright and related rights levies to collective societies in Latvia. This time we aim to clarify why, to whom and how much to pay for the music you play in your restaurant, shopping centre or office.

And finally, news from Belarus, where trade mark regulation recently went through substantial revision, introducing the main amendments.
