Secondment to Wolf Theiss, Vienna

Tatsiana Shyshkarova

This year I had a great opportunity to spend about four weeks working at Wolf Theiss – one of the largest law firms in Austria and one of the leading law firms in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe (CEE/SEE). The first office of Wolf Theiss opened in Vienna over 50 years ago. The Wolf Theiss team brings together over 320 lawyers working in offices in 12 countries throughout the CEE/SEE region and Wolf Theiss has been awarded by International Financial Law Review, PLC Which lawyer?, Chambers Global and other reviews.

Taking into account that Wolf Theiss is an integrated firm, I was looking forward to learning from the inside how all 12 Wolf Theiss offices provide a "one stop shop" service to clients. I was lucky to get to the heart of this big mechanism – the Vienna office. The year before, I had done some interesting projects with clients from Austria. Thus my secondment was a good option for obtaining a better understanding of Austrian culture and learning how to do business with Austrians. One of my interests was to develop "best friends networking" with Wolf Theiss, which has no offices in the Baltics and Belarus.

I enjoyed my time at Wolf Theiss very much. The atmosphere at Wolf Theiss was warm and enthusiastic, yet highly professional. The secondment programme was well planned, I had a lot of things to do and to learn during the day, met many interesting people and dealt with many interesting tasks. Working in the Banking and Finance Team, I was able to contribute to actual client assignments by researching legal questions and drafting complex documents, from agreements under Austrian law to overviews and legal opinions under Belarusian law. The programme helped me to gain practical know-how about corporate issues in Austria while daily working side by side with leading lawyers in Austria. I truly appreciate the opportunity given to me!
