Advising Hitachi on matters related to contemplated construction, operation and maintenance of a new nuclear power plant in Visaginas, Lithuania. The Sorainen team supported Hitachi, as a strategic investor in this regional project, in relation to structuring and setting up the Lithuanian investment vehicle for the Visaginas Nuclear Power Plant project, consulting on energy, environmental and investment regulations, and other issues related to planning the project.

Advising and representing Fortum Power & Heat, a publicly listed leading energy company in the Nordics, Russia and the Baltic States, and its local group companies in a number of interconnected complex national and international procedures and disputes. The Sorainen team also consulted Fortum on many regulatory, environmental, and project financing matters.

Advising a major international energy company operating in the energy market of the Baltic and Nordic countries in a dispute with Baltic electricity transmission system operators (TSOs) and regulatory authorities (NRAs).


Assisting Chevron on acquisition of a 50 per cent stake in a Lithuanian company holding a license for exploration and production of hydrocarbon resources in Western Lithuania. The assistance included all operational issues related to exploration and production of hydrocarbons in Lithuania.

Advising Eesti Gaas group, the main natural gas wholesaler and retailer in Estonia and also the owner of the Estonian transmission and main distribution networks, in a corporate restructuring project worth approx EUR 60 million.

Consulting Lithuanian natural gas transmission system operator Amber Grid, the target of an acquisition, where state-owned holding company EPSO-G made a mandatory takeover offer to acquire the remaining shares in Amber Grid. The transaction, valued at over EUR 58 million, is the result of Third Energy Package implementation.

Advising Finnish gas distribution network company Gasum Energiapalvelut on selling its Estonian business Gasum Eesti to Alexela Energia, part of Alexela Group.


Advising Pure Energy Intelligence with regard to conclusion of Investment Agreements with the Republic of Belarus on construction and maintenance of a Combined Heat and Power Plant and a 4.2 MW Photovoltaic Power Plant.

Advising Enerstena, a major Lithuanian specialist in assembling, insulating and plating works for steam, water heating and heating plants in the Baltics, including in installation of natural gas and biomass boilers for district heating systems, construction of flue gas condensers, and boiler house modernisation works in many Lithuanian towns as well as in Latvia.


Advising the Estonian Renewable Energy Association, an umbrella organisation of Estonian renewable energy producers, in a legislative process aimed at reducing renewable energy support measures retroactively.

Advising one of the leading renewable energy producers in Eastern and Central Europe on its energy projects in Belarus, involving construction of landfill gas installations at Belarusian landfills and green energy production.

Supporting the Lithuanian Renewable Energy Producers Association in relation to renewable energy regulation (drafting amendments to the Law on Renewable Energy on a net-metering system, negotiating with the energy market regulator and other governmental institutions, and participating in hearings for legislative amendments).


Consulting Iberdrola in negotiating, signing and executing an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract with Lietuvos elektrinė for turnkey construction of a 440MW combined circle gas turbine power plant in Lithuania, which was put in use in 2012. Project value was about EUR 300 million.

Advising main Lithuanian electricity producer Lietuvos energijos gamyba on issues related to possibilities of the dominant player in the Lithuanian electricity market to launch its trading activities in other Baltic States.

Advising Alstom, a world leader in transport infrastructure, power generation and transmission, in an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract procurement process with Eesti Energia.


Supporting Statoil, a major fuel retailer, during a two-year investigation by the Latvian Competition Council, as well as advising the client at all stages of the investigation, including issues related to seized electronic information analysis, interrogations and preparation of closing arguments.

Representing Tallinna Vesi, a leading Estonian water and sewerage company and part of the United Utilities group, in a high profile administrative court dispute regarding water tariffs in Tallinn, the Estonian capital.

Advising a leading Estonian oil operator Alexela Oil in the acquisition of Hydro Texaco, an operator of fuel stations, in Lithuania and Latvia.
