Why is the Government cancelling so many privatization auctions and contests?

Answer

Indeed, several dozens of privatisation auctions and contests this year were cancelled quite shortly after announcement. In some cases there was a strong opposition from the local municipal authorities (they objected to sale of a profitable enterprise to private investor), and in others the government wished to adjust bidding prices following the repeated BYR devaluation. But overwhelming majority of the targets will be put up for sale anyway.
