Associate Piret Schasmin has been a member of the Sorainen Dispute Resolution Practice Group since 2015. She advises clients who have fallen victim to crime, assisting and representing them in internal and pre-trial investigations and civil court proceedings. In addition, Piret advises on issues related to administrative law, money laundering prevention and asset tracing.

Before joining Sorainen, Piret worked for six years as an expert at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, where she concentrated mainly on policy making and legislative drafting in the fields of product safety (consumer products), EU product rules (pyrotechnic products, explosives, toys), market surveillance, standardisation and handling of dangerous substances. Piret has also worked at the Permanent Representation of Estonia to the European Union (in Brussels) as a counsellor for economic affairs (attaché) and she has participated in the EU policy making process as a representative of Estonia.

Piret has performed academic research on EU law and is a co-author of several articles published in internationally recognised law journals. She has studied options arising from EU law for review of final judgments and administrative decisions as well as admissibility of electronic communication data retention.
