Agita Sprūde is an associate, specialising in dispute resolution and litigation, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, information technology and data protection, as well as in telecommunications. Agita has experience in the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments in Latvia, international investment law, administrative law and procedure, criminal law (white-collar crimes) and commercial contracts.

Since joining Sorainen, Agita has been involved in several significant cases providing legal advice for clients on various aspects of civil law, consumer rights, as well as data protection, and she has represented clients in national and cross-border disputes and litigation. She was also part of the legal team representing E-Energija in the first ICSID case against the Republic of Latvia on the termination of a 30-year concession agreement, which resulted in expropriation of the claimant’s investments in the heating system for the city of Rezekne.

Agita has co-authored a chapter on Latvia in an international publication on the recognition of foreign judgments, and contributed to research conducted by the European Commission on implementation of e-health. She is the author of several publications on data protection and has also conducted in-depth research on the issues cross-border data processing presents when establishing the scope of legal protection and determining the applicable jurisdiction, which was awarded a distinction at the University of Latvia.

In addition to being qualified as a lawyer, Agita has studied international law and obtained a master’s degree from Montesquieu University – Bordeaux, in France, where she specialised in international dispute resolution. She has deepened these skills by participating in renowned international moot court competitions – the Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition and the Monroe E. Price Media Law Moot Court Competition at the University of Oxford, achieving excellent results. Her team made it into the world top ten.
