Experience

Viktorija Jarkina (PhD), a specialist counsel, has been practising law since 2002.

Viktorija specialises in dispute resolution and government relations, white-collar crimes and is an expert in the field of franchising. She has gained extensive practical expertise in the course of advising many notable clients. Before joining Sorainen, Viktorija worked for six years at another larger law firm as a litigator representing clients’ interests in civil and criminal disputes.

Viktorija spent three years working at the Latvian Ministry of Justice, initially as deputy director for the European and International Law Department and later as director of the Civil Law Department. She has also represented the national interests of Latvia concerning intermediary-held securities at the International Institute for the Unification of Private International Law (UNIDROIT). Viktorija was the officer in charge of developing numerous draft laws and regulations in Latvia such as Amendments to the Commercial Law, Amendments to the Civil Law and Amendments to the Civil Proceedings Law. From 2007 to 2008, Viktorija was the executive officer responsible for navigating draft Amendments to the Commercial Law through the Cabinet of Ministers and the Saeima. She has also taken part in drafting legal regulations on franchising agreements within the framework of Latvian Commercial Law.

As of 2007, Viktorija is a lecturer on the law of obligations at Turiba University. In addition, she is an acknowledged expert in international and Latvian research projects and the author of a large number of publications and articles: for example, she authored the book “Franchising in Theory and Practice. A Franchise Agreement in the Framework of Civil Law” published in Latvian and translated into English. She also initiated the now annual Advocacy Day in Latvia.
