Sergej Butov is a partner and head of the Corporate and M&A Practice Group (in the Baltic States and Belarus), which includes the Corporate, Employment, Investment Incentives, M&A, Private Equity and Privatisation Practice Areas.

Core areas of Sergej's professional interest include mergers & acquisitions (M&A), joint ventures, corporate matters and real estate transactions. He has 15 years of extensive experience in advising local and international financial and strategic investors on various aspects of cross-border and domestic M&A activities. During his career Sergej has been involved in advising clients on the largest and most complex M&A transactions in the Baltics, as well as on successful implementation of landmark regional projects. 

According to the statistics of Mergermarket, Sergej is among Top 15 individual lawyers by the total number of advised major M&A transactions in the Baltics (credited for 16 transactions with a total disclosed value of EUR 459 million during 2005-2018).

Before joining Sorainen, he practiced with one of the leading law firms in Lithuania for eight years.
