Experience

Ieva Andersone, a senior associate, has been practising law since 2003.

Ieva’s key specialisations include litigation and arbitration, competition law, commercial contracts, media law and intellectual property. Thus she is able to advise on borderline cases involving issues of intellectual property law, competition law and media law.

Ieva is skilled both in resolution of disputes involving intellectual property issues, and in providing legal assistance and opinions within the daily management of clients' intellectual property rights. Her recent experience includes representing a famous Latvian poet in a copyright dispute initiated by an aspiring young writer in relation to the authorship of a well-known musical, as well as Baltkom TV, the largest cable TV operator in Latvia, in its dispute with LaIPA, the Latvian society of collective related rights management.

As of 24 May 2012, Ieva is the only SORAINEN Latvia associate listed with the Latvian register of patent attorneys with a specialisation in trade marks. Ieva is entitled to represent international clients before the Latvian Patent Authority in trade mark related matters, including international trade mark registration applications.

In recent years Ieva has worked on many of the most complex competition-related cases in SORAINEN Latvia, including infringements, merger notifications, defending clients at the Competition Council and litigation in competition matters.

Ieva is a recommended practitioner for advertising law by Best Lawyers. 

In addition, since 2005, Ieva has been the Latvian correspondent for the IRIS newsletter on audiovisual media law published by the European Audiovisual Observatory. Ieva has authored numerous publications on commercial law and public international law issues, as well as having accomplished major research on international treaties and EU law commissioned by the Ministry of Justice. Ieva has also lectured on public international law and EU law at the Law Faculty of the University of Latvia. Before joining SORAINEN, she worked as a legal counsel with the Latvian National Broadcasting Council.
