Competition Overview

SORAINEN holds an exceptional track record in handling competition law cases in the Baltics and Belarus. During the last five years, the SORAINEN Competition Practice has provided competition law advice to over 340 clients in approx 710 matters.

SORAINEN competition lawyers have advised on some of the largest and most complex merger deals in the Baltics and Belarus, where merger clearances from local and EU competition authorities were key prerequisites for successful deal closure. Especially in cross-border merger cases, the integrated pan-Baltic and Belarus competition team can provide co-ordinated and effective solutions as a one-stop-shop for the client. In addition, SORAINEN also possesses expertise in advising on competition issues in the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, which is rapidly developing since the entry into force of the EEU Treaty on 1 January 2015.

SORAINEN lawyers offer remarkable experience in antitrust proceedings in sectors ranging from the retail of consumer goods to banking services and electricity trading. In competition litigation, SORAINEN lawyers have represented clients in challenging decisions by competition authorities, private enforcement cases and in criminal proceedings. SORAINEN is also constantly advising clients in ensuring compliance of processes, pricing policies and agreements with competition law. The team benefits from long and successful experience with dawn raids both by national competition authorities and the European Commission. State aid is also an area in which SORAINEN enjoys the advantage of significant experience, such as in complex cases in the transport and energy sectors.

The SORAINEN Competition Practice consists of over twenty lawyers, many of whom spend most of their time handling competition cases. The team includes specialists who have occupied leading positions at national competition authorities and also worked as competition lawyers at European Union institutions and European law firms. SORAINEN lawyers have studied competition law at top universities, such as Cambridge, and published articles in leading journals like the European Competition Law Review.
