International Expert Training in Maritime Law

Subject: Detailed insight into legal aspects of international shipping, specifically carriage of goods by the sea, ship arrest, marine insurance and arbitration for international maritime disputes.
Target group: Maritime lawyers, shipping executives and students interested in maritime law.

Baltic and Scandinavian countries are heavily specialising on export – foremost on shipping. Still, trainings specialised on maritime law are hard to find in the region, especially taking into account that for a relevant content, international lectors should be involved.

Expert training on 3-7 September in Tallinn is a unique maritime law practical workshop organised by the City Law School, City University London, in close cooperation with the University of Tartu, and law firms Blas de Lezo and SORAINEN.

The training will offer an invaluable opportunity to learn from internationally distinguished academics, legal and business practitioners from maritime sector while establishing future contacts and friendships. The expert training’s units are:

  • The Common Law of England and Wales
  • Admiralty Law and Practice
  • Freight Forwarding, Logistics and Multimodal Transport
  • Carriage of Goods by Sea & Cargo Claims
  • Maritime Economics
  • The International Law of the Sea
  • Marine Insurance
  • London Maritime Arbitration
  • Shipbuilding Contracts.

A full balance of academic, legal and commercial expertise is represented in the composition of the teaching team:

  • Anthony Rogers, senior lecturer on Maritime Law, and Trade and Commercial Law, the City Law School, The City University, London
  • Miquel Roca, lecturer at the Abat Oliba Barcelona University and managing partner of Blas de Lezo Abogados, top Spanish maritime law firm
  • Dr. iur. Urmas Volens, lecturer on Company and Transport Law at University of Tartu, leading Estonian university, and specialist counsel with law firm SORAINEN
  • Prof. Heiki Lindpere, rector of the Estonian Maritime Academy with extensive previous maritime experience also in private sector
  • Dr. A. J. Corres, chairman of the Hellenic Association of Maritime Economists, member of the Board of the Hellenic Short Sea Association, and International Shipping Policy professor at the Aegean University.
