Private equity investors highly interested in Baltic States market

Place: Riga, Latvia
Time: 12 Jun 2008 – 13 Jun 2008

On 12-13 June 2008, an international conference "Buyouts and Venture Capital in the Baltics" took place in Riga, Latvia, organised by Marcus Evans. The conference, the first of its kind in Riga, brought together high profile speakers and well known participants in the private equity market.

Partner Laimonas Skibarka from SORAINEN Lithuania gave a presentation on "Using the Baltic legal and tax environment to your advantage", which included an overview of the regulatory framework for private equity and venture capital plus structuring private equity investments in the Baltics, the tax environment for private equity investments and managing cross-border transactions.

The event was also attended by partner Eva Berlaus: "With the high profile of the speakers and attendees from a wide range of countries as well as the conclusions of presentations and discussions that followed, the conference confirmed that despite the current situation in the economy of the three Baltic States, private equity investors are highly interested in this market, are generally positive about future prospects for macroeconomic development, and, especially in the mid and long term perspective, see this market as having high potential for private equity investment. Several participants stressed the high potential of the Baltic States as a starting point for Western investors entering the Russian market and Russian investors entering the European market."
