Carri Ginter (PhD in Law) is a partner and regional head of the Dispute Resolution Team, which includes Dispute Resolution, Public Procurement and Transport & Maritime Practices. He has been practising law since 1999.
Carri has extensive experience in litigation, illustrated by a list of positive decisions of the Supreme Court of Estonia. He successfully represented a client in the largest individual damages claim so far against the Republic of Estonia and the European Commission in the European Court of Justice. He has also defended various Estonian government ministries and Tallinn city council in court. Carri has been involved in landmark state liability, intellectual property and insurance law related disputes. He is also an experienced mediator.
Carri has one of the strongest competition profiles in the market. As a leading expert in the field, he has represented clients in several competition law based disputes in and out of court. His position in the market is further strengthened by a visible presence in the academic field: lecturing in European Law at the University of Tartu, Faculty of Law.
Carri is a recommended practitioner in many publications, including:
- The Legal 500 in dispute resolution, EU and competition, and shipping and transport practices praising him as "a powerful advocate" and commenting that "his experience and knowledge delivers well founded positions, based on the practice of European courts in a way few can match". He is also one of only five recommended individuals for dispute resolution in Estonia (in 2011) while clients acknowledge him as "undoubtedly the best and fluent debater";
- Chambers Europe in competition/antitrust, dispute resolution and intellectual property;
- Chambers Global for dispute resolution practice; and
- Best Lawyers for antitrust practice in Estonia.
Carri has been appointed avocat conseil (legal adviser) to the French embassy in Estonia. His works on Estonian and EU law have been published by recognised international law journals such as the European Competition Law Review, the European Law Review and Juridica International. He co-authored an Estonian language book on European Union (EU) and Estonian competition law and is an acknowledged speaker at seminars and conferences, including training for judges and lawyers.
Carri has trained the Institution of Ombudsman (Chancellor of Justice) in Georgia as a Council of Europe expert on property protection in European law and practice. He was a guest lecturer for the summer school of the American Institute on Political and Economic Systems for more than 100 participants on the influence of legal reforms on legal practice. He has also conducted EU law training for European Commission in Luxembourg and for the Estonian Bar Association. Carri is also an external reviewer of the periodical Yearbook of Polish European Studies.
