Andrius Šimkus, an experienced expert in energy law, regulation and policy, joins the Sorainen team. Andrius has over 16 years of experience in the energy sector – he has worked at Lithuanian energy sector companies (Litgrid, LEO LT and Lietuvos Energija) and at the Energy Community Secretariat in Vienna, as well as working at another leading law firm and developing a private energy law practice.

“We are happy to welcome Andrius to our team. His joining is a strategically important step for the Sorainen Energy sector group. The energy market in Lithuania and the entire region has been increasingly active for some time, and the war in Ukraine will further stimulate the renewal of the energy sector and will boost the process of strengthening the region’s clean energy production capacity. I am confident that Andrius’s expertise in energy sector regulatory matters and his significant international experience will help us respond to the growing needs of the market and successfully contribute to the development of this sector,” comments Sergej Butov, partner and co-head of the firm’s Energy & Infrastructure sector group.

Andrius specialises in the fields of electricity, gas, renewable energy, nuclear energy, energy efficiency, climate change management and others. He has contributed to over 60 energy sector projects, including international energy regulation, market reform and infrastructure projects in the Baltic States, Poland, Ukraine, Georgia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, Northern Macedonia and elsewhere. Andrius is the author or co-author of more than 200 legal acts regulating relations in the energy sector in 17 European jurisdictions.

“The professionalism and exceptional competencies of Sorainen lawyers are an axiom in the Baltic legal services market. However, an empathetic, humane approach to both the client and colleagues is equally important. This is what Sorainen’s image in the market is in terms of work ethic and values, and is the reason why I have been interested in contributing to this team’s work. It took almost ten years, but here I am,” says Andrius.
