About me

As a senior associate specialising in dispute resolution, I am especially passionate about complex corporate and financial disputes and disputes involving cross-border elements and EU law. As a member of the firm’s Technology, Media & Telecommunications sector group I do a lot of work with tech companies.

Professional highlights

Squeeze-out in listed company. A squeeze-out of the minority shareholders in a publicly listed company is extremely rare, having happened only three times in Estonia, and I advised clients in two of the more recent cases. In one of these I had the opportunity to advise the minority shareholders in obtaining fair compensation. In the other case I represented the majority shareholder in disputes with some minority shareholders who tried to hinder the squeeze-out process by filing unsubstantiated claims. These disputes involved hundreds of shareholders and had a financial influence amounting to millions of euros.

Supporting innovation. I have been lucky to assist companies offering new and innovative services, including financial services. As regulation on new fields is often insufficient, it is my mission to make sure that lack of experience in our court system will not stop clients from executing new and innovative solutions that have the power to improve our lives.

Cross-border disputes. A large part of my work concerns recognition and enforcement in Estonia of foreign court judgments and arbitral awards. I have always been passionate about private international law and my master’s thesis also concentrated on this field. I often work with cases involving EU law and have advised clients in matters where the Estonian courts refer questions to the European Court of Justice (ECJ) for a preliminary ruling. Among these was the first preliminary reference submitted by an Estonian court which was discussed by the Grand Chamber of the ECJ.

Empowering others. I enjoy giving lectures on the topics I care about, such as EU law, argumentation skills and moot courts at the University of Tartu and the Sorainen Student Academy. Every year, I am actively involved in helping students from the University of Tartu to prepare for the European Law Moot Court competition. As a student, I had the possibility to successfully represent my university in the same competition and also to participate in the Estonian Moot Court Competition, which our team won. I believe that moot court competitions provide one of the best possibilities for students to prepare for work as successful litigation lawyers.

Recognised by the Legal 500. In 2023 the Legal 500 ranked me as a rising star in Dispute Resolution in Estonia, based on the feedback received from the industry peers and clients. The clients say that I stand out for my work in complex financial disputes, as well as contentious matters involving cross-border elements and EU laws.
