The European Commission has presented its proposal for EU Inc., a new single set of corporate rules. It will provide a single harmonised set of corporate rules that companies can choose instead of navigating multiple national regimes, unlocking the true potential of the Single Market. The main features of EU inc. include faster registration, simpler procedures, fully digital operations and better conditions to attract investment.

The European Data Protection Board and the European Data Protection Supervisor adopt a Joint Opinion on the European Biotech Act proposal

The European Data Protection Board and the European Data Protection Supervisor have issued a Joint Opinion on the proposed European Biotech Act, which aims to strengthen EU biotech and biomanufacturing by streamlining clinical trial rules. They welcome the creation of a single legal basis for processing personal data in clinical trials but stress the need to maintain strong protections for sensitive health and genetic data. The Opinion recommends clearer controller roles, narrower data‑retention obligations, defined purposes and safeguards for further data processing, coherence with the AI Act, and mandatory pseudonymisation where possible. It also calls for clear legal bases for personal data processing within regulatory sandboxes.

EU to invest EUR 300 million to accelerate fusion energy and support nuclear technologies and skills

The European Commission has adopted the 2026–2027 Euratom Work Programme to advance nuclear innovation, support EU energy independence, and progress toward carbon‑neutrality. It allocates €222 million to accelerate fusion energy through a new public‑private partnership, support for start‑ups, and strengthened research. Another €108 million will fund nuclear fission research, including safety, waste management, advanced reactors, and nuclear medicine.

An official publication has been made of Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/718, which specifies minimum mandatory requirements under the Net‑Zero Industry Act. Under the regulation, EU contracting authorities must ensure that wind turbine blades used in onshore and offshore projects have a recyclability rate of at least 70%.
