On 10 September 2021, the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (the SCC) arranged the second of a series of events devoted to East-West related dispute resolution. This time, the SCC East-West Forum featured arbitration in Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia. Our senior partner Aku Sorainen and senior associate Maria Pihlak participated in the event as speakers.

Lessons learned

Our senior partner Aku Sorainen was the keynote of the event, speaking about the unexpected growth and subsequent lessons learned from his perspective as a Baltic law firm leader.

Arbitration from a practitioner’s perspective

Our senior associate Maria Pihlak participated as the Estonian expert in a panel discussion exploring arbitration in the region from the practitioner’s perspective.  Here, arbitral practitioners from Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia shared their expertise, best advice, and success stories of arbitrating disputes related to their home countries.

The panel was be moderated by Fredrik Ringquist, Mannheimer Swartling, Stockholm, and featured Beata Gessel-Kalinowska vel Kalisz from Gessel, Daiga Zivtiņa from Ellex Klavins, Ramūnas Audzevičius from Motieka & Audzevičius, and Maria Pihlak from Sorainen, as panelists.

The growing regional integration of the Baltic states and Poland reflects in a dynamic arbitration environment where local challenges intertwine with advanced global trends. The event explored the arbitration environment in the region, providing a meeting space and professional development for arbitral specialists.
