Law students in Estonia have chosen Sorainen as the most attractive employer in the legal sector, according to a survey conducted by the employer branding agency Instar.

The recognition was announced on 3 September during the Day of Attractive Employers, where the best employers were acknowledged in nine categories. Students also voted for the most attractive employers in economics, IT, engineering, law, medicine, and humanities.

Among law students, the top five most attractive employers out of 322 organisations were:

  1. Sorainen
  2. Cobalt
  3. Ellex
  4. The Prosecutor’s Office
  5. Estonian Courts

Solving complex problems requires the best people

“The largest companies in the Baltics come to us with complex legal issues when they need significant support for their business. Solving complicated challenges requires the best people — those who fit our culture and share our values. Attracting such talent isn’t easy, which is why we focus on being visible and explaining what we do, our mission, and how we help clients solve both business and legal challenges, contributing to the prosperity of the entire Baltic region,”
explains Kaupo Lepasepp, country manager partner in Estonia, explaining why we invest in building our reputation as an attractive employer.

“Working at a law firm is intense, and it’s great when we get to do it alongside motivated and inspiring people. Building an attractive employer brand requires consistency — much like growing a beautiful English lawn: it must be seeded, watered, fertilised, and trimmed every week for 200 years. That’s how a strong organisational culture grows, too. It’s about being present, listening, and understanding what people need. Human connection should always remain at the heart of what we build,” adds Kaupo.

Students at Sorainen are supported and valued

Our People & Culture team at Sorainen coordinates numerous student-related initiatives and projects, including job shadowing days, the Sorainen Student Academy, the summer internship programme, and events in cooperation with various student organisations.

Through the Sorainen Student Academy, students gain practical insights into different areas of law that we specialise in. Lectures are delivered by partners and experienced lawyers from each practice group, and participants also receive tips on personal branding and career development.

During internships, students are mentored by experienced lawyers, many of whom started their own careers as Sorainen interns. Interns work on real cases and transactions, gain hands-on experience in cross-border projects, and are invited to participate in all firm-wide events and training sessions. Internships are paid, and the most outstanding interns receive job offers at the end of the programme. A number of our current partners began their careers as Sorainen interns.

“Being recognised as an Attractive Employer confirms that students value what we do,”
say Laura Kiigemägi and Inkeri Söödor, Sorainen’s People & Culture specialists. “We want students to gain a realistic view of our day-to-day work so they can make informed career decisions. Collaboration and knowledge-sharing are at the heart of Sorainen’s culture, and we are delighted to see how this creates additional value for young professionals.

Our work as the most attractive employer in the sector will continue in the years ahead – on 15 September 2025 we will once again invite students to apply for the new season of the Sorainen Student Academy,” promise Laura and Inkeri.

Estonia’s largest employer reputation survey reveals what employees expect from employers

Estonia’s largest survey of job expectations and employer reputation, carried out by Instar Employer Branding Agency, has been conducted regularly since 2010. Respondents evaluate their expectations of employers, information and communication channels, and also rate the attractiveness of Estonia’s largest and most important employers as workplaces.

This year, nearly 7,000 respondents took part in the survey, including 2,542 students, who assessed the attractiveness of 322 Estonian organisations. In the overall ranking, students voted Swedbank as the most attractive employer in Estonia.

According to the nationwide survey of university students, in 2025, 46% of students said they would like to work at Swedbank. Among vocational school students, the most attractive employer was the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board, chosen by 49% of respondents. Among experienced employees, the most preferred employer was LHV Bank, selected by 61% of respondents.

The rankings of Estonia’s most attractive employers are published annually on Instar’s website and have become an important benchmark for employers. The most successful organisations are also recognised with the Attractive Employer Certificate, presented each September during the Day of Attractive Employers.
