On 17 January 2020, Sorainen increased its number of partners by inviting Andris Tauriņš and Valts Nerets to join the firm’s partnership. Latvian office management and client relations are now in the hands of seven partners, while the total number of Sorainen partners has reached 33.

Laimonas Skibarka, Sorainen managing partner, comments: “We strongly believe that this addition to our partnership will help us rapidly grow the dispute resolution practice in Latvia as well as develop our Technology, Media & Telecommunications and Transport & Logistics sector groups. This increase in the number of partners means that our clients in Latvia will see more partner hands-on involvement in their cases, which in turn will increase client satisfaction. ”

Specialisation

Both newly promoted partners will continue co-heading the Dispute Resolution and Risk Management practice group at Sorainen Latvia (which they started in June 2019).

Andris Tauriņš is a licensed professional patent attorney specialising in trademark matters. His specialisations cover government relations, media law and intellectual property protection.

Valts Nerets represents clients in international and local arbitration proceedings and litigation involving cross-border elements and international trade issues. He is passionate about international investment law arbitration ‒ his field of practice and research for over ten years.

Client perspective

Andris and Valts joined Sorainen ten years ago and were among the first sector group leaders when Sorainen launched its client sector strategy in 2014.

Currently, Andris heads our Technology, Media & Telecommunications sector group at the Latvian office. He regularly advises technology industry clients on intellectual property, regulation, contract and dispute resolution matters.

Valts has been developing the firm’s Transport & Logistics sector group. His experience in this sector enables Valts to provide practical advice to clients on trade and regulatory aspects of transport and maritime law.

Developing the firm and contributing to society

Valts is a trainer in our firm-wide programme on project management ‒ one of the most important client service aspects for legal professionals. He also contributes to the development of young legal professionals through university lecturing.

Both newly appointed partners have actively participated in leading moot courts and lecturing at the Sorainen Student Academy.

Andris often undertakes socially significant projects and heads a number of pro bono projects. For example, he handled regional newspaper Bauskas Dzīve’s fight against unfair media practices by local municipalities. He also contributed to establishing the Latvian Media Ethics Council – an independent non-governmental body that aims to promote ethical and responsible journalism and media self-regulation.
