Our partner Norman Aas has been elected as a legal expert for the Public Council of International Experts (PCIE).
The PCIE’s mission is to assist the Commission in selecting judges for the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC). It is composed of international experts: judges and prosecutors with experience in Estonia, the USA, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Canada.
The Commission’s work takes place in sessions on the ground in Ukraine. Due to the current state of war, its work may also take place in a bomb shelter, where this photo of the commission members was taken.
World-class expert
This represents significant recognition of Norman’s work, as the nominees were recommended by the European Union (EU), the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Norman has 17 years of experience as a prosecutor, during which he handled hundreds of criminal and corruption cases. He was also a member of the Council for the Administration of Courts in Estonia for nine years, where one of his tasks was to assess the suitability of candidates to be Supreme Court justices.
From 2014 to 2017, Norman was the Secretary General at the Ministry of Justice, where he coordinated and implemented national anti-corruption policies and strategies.
