About me
I am a senior associate with our Tax team and specialise in tax dispute resolution and litigation projects concerning value added tax, personal income tax, excise tax, and customs matters. I have been working in the tax sector since 2015, and before joining Sorainen I accumulated significant experience working for the Latvian tax authorities and in the tax advice departments of international audit companies.
Professional highlights
Solving issues with tax authorities. I regularly help our clients cooperate with the State Revenue Service on tax matters. I advise clients who are undergoing or have upcoming tax audits.
Representing clients in court and before other institutions. So far in my career, I have successfully represented clients before state institutions during the resolution of tax disputes: the State Revenue Service, the administrative court, the court of appeal, and the Supreme Court. I have notable experience of working with evidence in administrative proceedings, which is frequently a major stumbling block in disputes with tax administrations.
Tax expertise in complex transactions. I regularly advise clients on the correct application of taxes in complex transactions (including international ones). My expertise includes the case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union in VAT and excise tax cases; this aspect is quite helpful in negotiations with tax authorities. Likewise, I have experience lecturing both for the state administration and in the private sector, having given lectures to the State Administration School about the mechanisms that create a shadow economy in the VAT sector.
