Sorainen has been collaborating with local American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) organisations for several years, and this year has been full of events. Our Sorainen experts join AmCham in their aim to develop mutually beneficial economic relations between the United States of America and all three of the Baltic republics.

Our Sorainen experts from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania have been actively participating in AmCham events throughout 2023. Lithuanian colleagues have been active participants at many AmCham Lithuania events this year, sharing about our pan-Baltic legal knowledge and expertise.

Focus on procurement in Latvia

Katrīne Pļaviņa-Mika, our senior associate from Riga, was one of the speakers at the October AmCham workshop, titled “Launch of RESAH guidelines promoting value-based procurement”, focused on value-based healthcare procurement. The aim was to introduce a manual for the implementation and application of value-based procurement. The manual was created and localised for Latvian needs in cooperation with RESAH, the French central purchasing centre for hospitals.

The workshop was organised for health care institutions and professionals in the medical industry. It helped them develop a procurement strategy, respecting both medical goals and patient interests. In 2022, AmCham launched a cycle of events aiming to promote knowledge and understanding around value-based procurement, based on the concept of value-based healthcare developed in 2022.

Sharing expertise in Estonia

Sorainen Estonian office has previously hosted AmCham’s second round table with policymakers, dedicated to the topic of Vaccination Confidence and its impact on the economy and labour market. The Estonian office also hosted the AmCham 2023 kick-off event, where members gathered to network and welcome new members of the chamber.

Our head of the life sciences and healthcare sector group in Estonia, Lise-Lotte Lääne, has been collaborating with AmCham Estonia as a member of the AmCham Healthcare Committee, contributing to a patient-centred and sustainable healthcare system. At the Annual Healthcare Conference 2023, Lise-Lotte touched on the legal system behind healthcare and emphasised the need for strong political support and relevant modifications in the legal acts to increase the quality of accessible healthcare in Estonia. To understand the reasoning behind the decisions, all stakeholders (patients, manufacturers, healthcare providers) should demand more transparency from the authorities.

Mihkel Miidla is head of the Sorainen Technology, Media & Telecommunications sector, as well as the Data Protection practice in Estonia. He also supports AmCham’s continuous contribution to enhancing the well-being of Estonian citizens. As a member of the AmCham Digital Society Committee, Mihkel helps to raise awareness among companies and the Estonian public in general. He does this by introducing best practices in managing and benefitting from technological innovation.
