About me

I am a partner and head of the firm’s Dispute Resolution practice group in Latvia. I have been practising law for over 20 years. During that time I have gained experience in representing clients of all types in a wide range of litigation and arbitral proceedings across a range of business sectors. For many years I have also been head of the firm’s Commercial and Regulatory practice group.

Professional highlights

Dispute resolution and international arbitration. My key legal area has always been dispute resolution and international arbitration. I have acted as counsel in multimillion-euro arbitration cases and advised clients on investment arbitration issues. For example, I was counsel for Lithuanian investor E energija against the Latvian state in Latvia’s first ICSID case. I acted as counsel for one of the largest European insurance groups in arbitration before the SCC Arbitration Institute. I successfully defended an international technology corporation in complex product liability litigation that lasted for nine years and involved detailed technical product examination in a specialised lab in Europe.

From a domestic to an international perspective. I help the firm’s international and local clients in international civil procedural issues, securing claims in support of foreign litigation, enforcing foreign court judgments and arbitral awards, asset freezing and tracking and managing investigations. I have been invited to provide an expert opinion on Latvian law in several foreign courts.

Unique solutions in emerging areas. Emerging technology and telecom areas continually demand innovative legal approaches and I am passionate about assessing risks and finding non-standard solutions for clients. I acted for clients in complex litigation that ended with landmark decisions in the Viagra and “Olimpia” cases. Technology and telecom area-related highlights include: Prior Rights development of an innovative mobile application, an interactive gambling licence for Betsson Group, and expansion of Spotify, Uber and Cogent to the Baltics; science-led global healthcare company GlaxoSmith and American multinational document management corporation Xerox.
