Commission presents Code of Practice on marking and labelling of AI-generated content
Published: 17 December 2025
The European Commission has begun developing a Code of Practice to facilitate compliance with Article 50 of the AI Act, which sets transparency requirements for providers and users of generative AI systems.
The purpose of the Code is to ensure that outputs produced by generative AI—such as text, audio, images, and videos—are clearly marked as AI-generated or altered, thereby reducing the risk of deception and safeguarding the integrity of public information.
The drafting process will involve two dedicated working groups: one for AI system providers, focusing on machine-readable labeling and robust technical measures; and another for deployers, addressing the disclosure of deepfakes and AI-generated content in areas of public interest.
