About me

Having joined Sorainen in 2012, I have been helping clients with regulatory matters, intellectual property issues and contracts.

Professional highlights

Intellectual property matters. I assist clients with diverse aspects of trademarks, patents, designs and copyright, for example developing IP protection strategy, trademark prosecution, patent litigation, as well as drafting agreements related to IP development, transfer and licensing. While studying in the U.S.A. for a year on a Fulbright scholarship I gained further in-depth knowledge in the area of trademarks, patents and copyright, as well as an understanding of the US and common law legal system in general.

Regulatory matters. I work with licensing and other regulatory requirements in a wide range of areas, including advertising, telecommunications, domain names, pharmaceuticals, food, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, goods of strategic significance, gambling, plus data and consumer protection. My role usually involves explaining existing regulation, helping to obtain licences or fulfilling other regulatory obligations, and otherwise representing clients in these matters before state institutions and courts.

Full range of agreements. Besides IP-related agreements, I work with franchise agreements, agreements related to sale of goods and services, online terms of use and so on.

Academic work. Remaining engaged in academic work after graduation has given me the chance to meet many bright upcoming lawyers. I am involved, either as a coach or a judge, in moot courts held on a wide array of different topics, such as public international law, international arbitration, investment law, constitutional and administrative law, civil law and intellectual property law. I also teach the public international law course at the University of Latvia.
