We are proud to partner with ESA BIC Latvia, a business incubation centre supporting early-stage space technology companies, by providing pro bono legal advice on intellectual property (IP) matters and strategy to its incubated startups.

For space tech ventures, establishing a clear IP strategy from the outset is a fundamental business decision. A well-defined approach enables founders to identify, manage, and protect their core innovations before disclosing them to investors, collaborators, or other third parties. Startups that treat IP as a strategic priority from day one are significantly better positioned to safeguard and maximise the value of their technologies.

ESA BIC Latvia and the growing Latvian space sector

Launched in 2024, ESA BIC Latvia aims to foster a sustainable ecosystem for space startups, strengthening Latvia’s position within Europe’s science-driven economy, with a particular emphasis on the space industry.

The space technology sector presents a compelling strategic opportunity for Latvia. As a small, open economy with strong capabilities in advanced manufacturing, electronics, and information and communication technologies, Latvia is well-positioned to integrate into broader European and global space programmes.

Participation in this sector provides Latvian companies with access to high-value, export-oriented markets while promoting deep-tech innovation that underpins long-term economic competitiveness. For a country of Latvia’s size, early engagement in the space industry can deliver meaningful returns in terms of innovation capacity, skilled talent development, and international visibility. At the national level, space-derived data and services have practical applications across key areas, including agriculture, environmental monitoring, transport, and national security.
