What I get called for. When a company has suffered substantial losses and needs to decide how, and from whom, to recover them. When a transaction or long-term commercial relationship has broken down, and the dispute spans several jurisdictions. When a contract calls for international arbitration, where the other side can be a company or a state, or when a foreign award needs to be recognised and enforced in Latvia.

My practice also covers construction, insurance, maritime and cross-border supply disputes, including cases involving the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). I’m also brought in on civil liability disputes, including when the liability of directors or other corporate officers needs to be assessed, when shareholders or business partners are in dispute, or when a company needs to decide on the right strategy for litigation or arbitration.

Where necessary, I also help identify, secure and recover assets, so that a successful judgment or arbitral award is more than a win on paper.

I led the team and case strategy for one of Europe’s largest insurance groups in an SCC arbitration over a seller’s breach of warranties. I was also part of the team behind Latvia’s first-ever investor win at ICSID. In cases like these, the outcome often turns less on the legal argument itself than on the ability to prove damages, causation and liability convincingly. This is at the core of my practice: from shaping the case strategy and evidence to obtaining a judgment or award and, where necessary, turning it into an actual recovery.

Why clients come back. Clients interviewed by Chambers have highlighted my ability to handle complex matters with precision and speed, describing me as proactive, highly resourceful and “always two steps ahead.” What matters most to me, however, is being someone clients can simply call when they are facing a difficult decision, even when it is not yet clear whether it will turn into a dispute. Many disputes are easier to prevent at the right moment than to win later.

Beyond the courtroom. I write and speak regularly on board and corporate liability, IP and software infringement risks, as well as litigation risks arising from sanctions, supply chain disruption, ESG and sustainability requirements, including the practical impact of the CSRD, the EU Taxonomy Regulation and the CSDDD. I am particularly interested in the point where business strategy and compliance issues turn into legal risk and, ultimately, a dispute.
