Sorainen has published its Sustainability Report 2026, covering the firm’s progress during 2025 with regard to business, people, society, and environmental priorities. The report reflects a year focused on embedding sustainability into how the firm advises clients, manages risk, develops our people and operates as a single integrated Baltic organisation.

As managing partner Eva Berlaus notes in the report, 2025 was “defined not by radical shifts, but by disciplined progress – embedding what we have built, acting responsibly, and investing where it matters for long-term value.” This framing captures the main direction taken this year: strengthening the foundations that support clients, employees and the wider business environment.

A key development was the continued integration of ESG considerations into Sorainen’s legal services. Rather than operating ESG as a stand-alone practice, the firm embeds ESG-related advisory work across practice and sector teams, supporting clients on regulatory, financing, governance, risk management, and energy transition matters across the Baltics. In 2025, this included advising on landmark renewable energy and sustainable finance projects, such as EUR 318 million in financing for the 314 MW Kelmė Wind Farm, a EUR 77.5 million loan for the Stelpe and Vārme solar farms in Latvia, and Key Carbon’s EUR 100 million agreement with InSoil to support regenerative agriculture. We also advised the Lithuanian Banking Association on the EU Taxonomy criteria, helping banks assess whether certain loans qualify as green financing.

Client trust remained a central measure of progress. In the first full year of Sorainen’s Client Experience Survey, 441 clients provided feedback, helping the firm monitor service quality and identify areas for improvement in real time. Sorainen achieved a firm-wide Net Promoter Score of 77, with 80% of responding clients classified as promoters – a world-class result by global NPS standards.

Development of our people continued to be another strategic priority. Sorainen maintained a high employee engagement score of 76, while 100% of team members received regular feedback on career progression, competency and performance. The firm also invested EUR 450,200 into learning and development and EUR 522,300 into wellbeing and remote work arrangements, supporting professional growth, flexible work and long-term retention. Diversity, equity and inclusion efforts also made progress, with women’s representation at partner level increasing from 41% to 43% over the course of the year.

Sorainen’s societal impact was reflected most clearly through our pro bono work and education. In 2025, the firm invested EUR 195,900 into pro bono work, including support through the Shared Mission programme, which focused on defence, security, crisis preparedness and societal resilience. The Sorainen Student Academy also continued to support future legal talent, with 72 students out of 166 applicants selected for the 2025/2026 season.

On the environmental side, Sorainen continued strengthening its Net Zero preparedness and environmental management practices. As of 31 December 2025, 98% of office areas were powered by renewable electricity, and 98% of office areas held BREEAM Outstanding, LEED Platinum, or European Green Office certification. The firm also continued improving carbon footprint data quality and supplier engagement, recognising that future progress will depend on more structured action across procurement, travel, events and other Scope 3 emissions areas.

Taken together, the report shows sustainability becoming more measurable, structured and closely connected to Sorainen’s long-term strategy. The progress made in 2025 strengthens the way we support clients, invest in our people, contribute to the region and manage our environmental impact – while setting a clear direction for continued responsible growth.
