We represented a food industry company in litigation concerning defamation and infringement of honour, dignity, and reputation, brought against one of Latvia’s leading media groups.
About the case
The dispute arose following the publication by the media outlet of statements which, in the client’s view, were false and damaging to its reputation. These statements had a serious impact on the client’s standing in the market and its ability to continue business operations without disruption. During the course of the litigation, negotiations with the opposing party continued, ultimately resulting in a settlement that aligned with the client’s interests. The settlement was approved by the court, and the proceedings were terminated.
The dispute was resolved amicably, ensuring the protection of the client’s reputation. The settlement not only safeguarded our client’s interests but also set a precedent for responsible conduct by media outlets. Although the publications had a severe impact on the client’s business operations, the court-approved settlement provided the client with an opportunity to restore its reputation in the eyes of its business partners.
