Sorainen has been included in the GAR 100 ranking for the 19th edition, marking our seventh consecutive year in which the firm’s international arbitration practice has been recognised among the strongest globally.

The ranking confirms Sorainen’s position as a trusted arbitration adviser for complex, high‑value cross‑border disputes, including investment treaty and commercial arbitration, as well as award enforcement across multiple jurisdictions.

Landmark mandates reinforce Sorainen’s global arbitration profile

In its 2026 edition, Global Arbitration Review highlights Sorainen’s track record in high‑impact international disputes. Among notable achievements is the firm’s successful defence, together with Jones Day, of a €55 million ICSID award against Kazakhstan on behalf of glass manufacturer Windoor. The award followed earlier SCC proceedings relating to the same Astana development project and stands as one of the most significant ICSID outcomes involving the region in recent years.

GAR also notes Sorainen’s continued involvement in complex treaty and commercial arbitrations, enforcement proceedings across Europe, and mandates involving third‑party funding, further underlining the team’s breadth of experience and international reach.

Experienced leadership across the Baltics

Sorainen’s dispute resolution practice is led by partner Carri Ginter in Tallinn, who has been with the firm since 2005. In addition to acting as counsel and arbitrator, Carri has represented Estonian government ministries and the City of Tallinn, and has appeared before the European Court of Justice. He is also a member of the SCC Arbitrators’ Council.

The international arbitration team is co‑headed by partner Maria Pihlak in Tallinn, and counsel Ieva Rimavičienė in Vilnius. Maria assumed the leadership of the international arbitration practice in 2024 and brings extensive experience in investment and commercial arbitration. Ieva focuses on complex cross‑border disputes and enforcement, and plays a key role in the practice’s pan‑Baltic coordination.

In addition, partner Kęstutis Švirinas leads the disputes practice in Vilnius and partner Valts Nerets heads the disputes practice in Riga.

Several Sorainen lawyers are also recognised individually in Lexology Index and Future Leaders, reflecting both senior expertise and the strength of the firm’s next generation of arbitration specialists.

A Baltic platform for truly international arbitration work

With offices in Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius, Sorainen offers clients a rare combination of deep local insight and international arbitration capability. The firm acts in disputes under the rules of ICSID, ICC, SCC, VIAC and other leading arbitral institutions, frequently working alongside top‑tier global firms.

Sorainen’s client base includes international industrial groups, energy companies, financial institutions and state‑owned entities.

What is the GAR 100?

The GAR 100, published annually by Global Arbitration Review, is one of the most respected benchmarks of excellence in international arbitration. Firms are selected based on the size, complexity and value of their arbitration work, as well as their experience in investment treaty disputes, enforcement, arbitrator appointments and overall market reputation.

Inclusion in the GAR 100 signals consistent performance at the highest international level, and is widely used by in‑house counsel, investors and co‑counsel when selecting arbitration advisers for the most demanding disputes.
