On 30 June 2021 a ceremony was held to open the construction site for the Rail Baltica station at Riga International Airport. The event signified the launch of the construction process of the Rail Baltica station and related infrastructure at Riga International Airport.
The specific project is part of Rail Baltica – the largest infrastructure project in the Baltic region in the last 100 years, with expected investment in the region exceeding 5 billion euros. The specific project is large and complex: a viaduct will connect the station and railway to the airport; it has to be fully integrated into the existing infrastructure, while also taking into the account other projects that are planned nearby. Our assistance and team
We were honoured to take part of this landmark project by preparing contracts for construction works and construction supervision services on behalf of the employer, as well as by assisting in the Q&A session during the tender. Both contracts are based on FIDIC 2017 forms (White and Red Book), thus making this one of the few projects globally where the latest FIDIC forms have been used.
The total value of the construction works contract is EUR 236,961,150 (excluding VAT), whereas the total value for the construction supervision services contract is EUR 5,849,799.72 (excluding VAT).
Our team consisted of senior associate Jorens Jaunozols and partner Lelde Laviņa, who advised the client on construction matters; counsel Raivo Raudzeps, who advised the client on procurement and arbitration matters (including DAAB); and senior associate Inese Heinacka, who advised the client on matters related to the securities to be provided by contractors under both contracts.
