As a lawyer with the firm’s Corporate and M&A and as well as Dispute Resolution & Risk Management practice groups, I work with both transactions and litigation cases.
According to Art. 40 (3) of the Bar Association Act, lawyers do not provide legal services. Lawyers are assisting the attorneys.
Practice with Sorainen. When joining Sorainen in 2017, I first started in our Real Estate & Construction practice group, focusing mainly on real estate matters. I drafted all sorts of real estate-related contracts and transaction documents, and participated in real estate-related litigation cases, incl. complex planning, construction and development disputes. In addition to real estate matters, I gradually started working with different kinds of transactions and litigation cases with our Corporate and Mergers & Acquisitions and Dispute Resolution & Risk Management practice groups, where I am an active member today.
Constant improvement. In my day-to-day practice, I thrive by constantly improving my knowledge and expertise in different practice areas and fields of law. I am always willing to tackle new & exciting challenges and to gain skills in previously unknown subjects. While with Sorainen, I have worked with cases involving, eg, property, environmental and administrative law, public procurement, restructuring & insolvency, inheritance & family law, M&A and corporate law, employment law, criminal law, commercial contracts, IP law, plus EU law & tort law. I am also a member of our Life Sciences & Healthcare and Technology, Media & Telecommunications sector groups.
Previous expertise. Before joining Sorainen, I worked for several years as an in-house lawyer at one of Estonia’s leading security services companies. This experience gave me a glimpse of how a nationwide business operates and what types of legal issues it encounters. My in-house practice also gave me my first experience in working with commercial contracts, litigation, employment matters and public procurement. In 2016, I also got the chance to contribute to preparations for the new draft Estonian Security Act by participating in the Estonian Security Association’s work group.
Academic acknowledgement. I graduated from the University of Tartu cum laude in 2017 with a masters’ degree in law. In my masters’ thesis I analysed the limitations to constitutional privacy rights in EU law through electronic communications data retention regulations. My thesis was awarded second prize by the Estonian Ministry of Justice for outstanding private and public law and legislation research in 2017. On this very same topic, I have published several articles in Estonian national newspapers advocating for the urgent need to amend Estonian legislation in order to comply with EU law and protect people’s constitutional right to privacy.
