We advised the Finnish retail group SOK on the sale of Prisma Peremarket and its 13 stores in Estonia to Coop Eesti Keskühistu. The transaction represents one of the largest domestic consolidations in the retail sector in Estonia’s history.
As a result of the transaction, the Prisma stores operating in Estonia will become Coop stores, and approximately 700 Prisma employees will transfer to Coop.
The transaction brings together both retail groups’ strengths
“We share a similar cooperative background and values of responsibility. Coop has a strong and positive reputation in Estonia and is recognised as an employer of choice,” commented Hannu Krook, President and CEO of SOK.
In addition to the acquisition of the stores, the parties plan to strengthen cooperation between the two retail groups. Krook noted that the transaction will have a positive impact on both the owners and the wider partner network, as suppliers who were previously delivering products to the 13 Prisma stores will now have the opportunity to supply up to 300 Coop stores across Estonia.
The transaction is subject to approval by the Estonian Competition Authority; this is expected to be granted during 2026.
