Ieva Andersone has been practising law since 2003. As of 2008 she is also an attorney-at-law.

Ieva specialises in competition law, regulatory matters, intellectual property rights, litigation, and contract law.

In competition law, Ieva has experience in advising on merger transactions and drafting merger notifications for the Competition Council. She has represented clients in court to challenge decisions by the Competition Council, as well as helping clients reach a settlement by entering into an administrative agreement.

Ieva has long experience in advising companies from regulated areas, especially in the pharmacy, electronic communication and information technology sectors. She has advised SIFFA (the Association of International Research-based Pharmaceutical Manufacturers); assistance also includes dealing with regulation of compensated medicines. In representing regulated areas, Ieva participates in M&A transactions, arranges transfer of licences, special permits and intellectual property rights.

Since 2012, Ieva has been a professional patent attorney specialising in trade marks, assisting clients in registering and maintaining their trade mark portfolio, as well as representing them in trade mark disputes before the Industrial Property Board of Appeal. Her clients in trade mark cases include Olympic Casino, Robert Bosch, Hilton, K-Rauta, Hesburger, Google, among others. She has considerable experience in patent disputes, for example representing the interests of concrete manufacturer Primekss in patent infringement cases. Ieva’s key specialisation in copyright and neighbouring rights is contract law, assisting clients in managing intellectual property rights (copyright in employment relations, contracts for ordered work, copyright in information technology, copyright in social networks), as well as dispute resolution. In resolving copyright disputes through the court, as an attorney Ieva has represented poet Kaspars Dimiters and cable operator Baltcom, besides assisting many clients to reach a successful solution before going to court.

Ieva maintains a special professional interest in media law and international law. Since 2005, she has been the Latvian correspondent for the IRIS newsletter on audiovisual media law published by the European Audiovisual Observatory. Ieva has participated in surveys organised by the European Commission and the European Parliament on media law regulation in Latvia (see list of publications in English), as well as lecturing at the Media Law Summer School organised by the University of Latvia. In court, Ieva has acted as an attorney representing journalists and TV channels in defamation cases. Most of these disputes have been resolved in favour of the client.

Ieva regularly provides pro bono assistance for companies in creative industries and for creative personalities. For example, she has advised Dirty Deal Teatro, newspaper Bauskas Dzīve and the Latvian Association of Journalists (Latvijas Žurnālistu asociācija).
