Paul Künnap, a counsel, has been practising law since 2000.

Paul advises mainly on M&A and tax law related matters but also has extensive knowledge in real estate and construction law. He has advised on company acquisitions and joint ventures, particularly those with international components, taking part in all stages of the transaction: negotiating letters of intent, conducting legal due diligence, drafting and negotiating transaction documents, and finally assisting with both closing and post-closing matters to ensure smooth integration. Paul has been involved in many transactions involving the food, energy, technology and real estate sectors. For example, he was an advisor on the approx EUR 105 million real estate deal where Citycon acquired Kristiine Shopping Centre. This was a landmark transaction not only for being one of the largest-ever real estate transactions in Estonia but also as a sign of new vigour in the market after difficult times.

In the field of taxation law Paul has advised on cross-border matters, helping with tax planning for trading companies, investment houses and high net worth individuals in addition to assisting with tax aspects of M&A cases. His particular experience in Finnish law makes him particularly suited for cases involving Finland and other countries sharing elements of the Nordic legal tradition.

In September 2014, the Board of the Foreign Investors' Council in Estonia (FICE) appointed Paul Künnap as head of the FICE taxation and legal issues working group. Two other working groups were formed to analyse labour and education issues topical for foreign investors. The goal of the working groups is to perform an in-depth analysis of the current situation of each issue from the perspective of foreign investors, inviting field experts to participate in working group meetings, and to come up with well-argued suggestions for the attention of officials and the Estonian government.

Paul is a recommended practitioner in:

  • The Legal 500 for corporate and M&A: "Paul Künnap has ‘good foresight for the legal risks associated with each deal and is a good member to have on the team’";
  • Tax Directors Handbook for tax practice;
  • Best Lawyers for real estate practice.
  • Chambers Europe is noting that  Paul Künnap is closely involved in the firm's key instructions. "He is an active negotiator," a source says.
